How to install the Cnotely extension
Cnotely Card Notes ships a browser extension that turns any browser into a capture entry: right-click clipping, select-to-card, and screenshot OCR. It is available on the Chrome, Edge and Firefox stores, and can also be loaded manually from a zip package when a store is not accessible.
Option 1 — Install from the extension store (recommended)
| Browser | Store |
|---|---|
| Chrome | Chrome Web Store |
| Microsoft Edge | Edge Add-ons |
| Firefox | Firefox Add-ons |
Click Add to [browser], confirm the permission dialog, and the Cnotely icon will appear in your toolbar. Store versions update automatically — this is the simplest way to install.
Option 2 — Install from a zip package (manual load)
Use this when the store is not accessible in your region, or when you use a Chromium-based browser that is not covered by the stores (for example 360 Secure Browser, QQ Browser, Opera, Brave).
Step 1 — Download and extract the package
- Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, 360, QQ, Opera, Brave...): download the Chromium package (.zip)
- Firefox: download the Firefox package (.zip)
Extract the zip to a permanent folder, for example C:\Users\you\cnotely-extension. Do not delete or move this folder afterwards — the browser keeps reading the extension from it, and deleting it will disable the extension. Step 2 — Load the unpacked extension
Microsoft Edge
- Open
edge://extensions/ - Turn on Developer mode (in the left sidebar)
- Click Load unpacked
- Select the folder you extracted in step 1
Chrome and other Chromium browsers
- Open
chrome://extensions/(in 360 / QQ / Opera / Brave, open their extension management page) - Enable Developer mode (top-right corner)
- Click Load unpacked
- Select the folder you extracted in step 1
Firefox
- Open
about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox - Click Load Temporary Add-on
- Select the
manifest.jsonfile inside the extracted folder
Firefox removes manually loaded add-ons when you restart the browser. For a permanent installation on Firefox, please use the Firefox Add-ons store version.
Step 3 — Verify
After loading, the Cnotely icon should appear in your toolbar, and right-clicking any web page should show the Cnotely menu items (save as note, save as card, screenshot OCR). If you see them, installation is complete.
Troubleshooting
- “Load unpacked” is greyed out: make sure Developer mode is enabled on the extension page.
- The browser says the package is invalid: you must extract the zip first — the browser cannot load a zip directly; select the extracted folder, not the zip file.
- Loaded once but gone after restart (Firefox): this is expected for temporary add-ons; install from the store instead.
- The icon does not appear: close and reopen the browser, or refresh the extension page; make sure the extracted folder was not moved or deleted.
- Store version and manual version conflict: install only one copy. If you previously installed from a store, remove it (or the manual copy) and keep just one.
